Let the Summer Projects Commence!!

Lots of projects and drawings to work on this summer! On the left is a sketch for an illustration I'm working on (two characters from Fruitful Confusion who have yet to be formerly introduced), and below is a page from a short comic I'm working on. It's a pure black and white worldless comic, done mostly for my own experimentation purposes. It should be fun though. :) I kind of wanted to have it be for only print and not online, but we'll see how I feel about that when I get to the end. I'll be updating FC regularly now, of course. (Yay!) I've been wanting to do some watercolor sketches, but its been rather chilly out and its deterred me...I miss the warm Florida weather! D: Ohhhh wellllll....

I'd share all the things I want to do this summer, buuuut I think it might be more fun to keep it a surprise. So stay tuned for a very productive summer this year! ;D

GIC and Jon Stewart

Remember that baby image from quite some time ago? Ohlook, its the version with text I promised! XD This was done before health care passed for my graphic design class.

Our last project for graphic design was to create packaging design for a fictional company. The one I chose to do was called Sucre Cafe, which was a place with loads of candy, cupcakes, cakes, etc. to choose from. Target audience was primarily children, but wanted to also be respectable and be somewhat appealing to older audiences as well. I made three different sized packages - a small bag for candy, a medium bag for candy, and then a box to hold cupcakes and/or cake. It was fun to do, though designed the package shape was a bit challenging.

The colors look really different online for some reason. o_O But you get the general idea I suppose.

And for our figure class, we had an assignment to do a portrait. From a single reference image we had to change the expression to whatever we wanted, though preferably something that says something about the person. I decided to do Jon Stewart because I've been wanting to draw him for a while...I honestly haven't a clue what exactly the expression is he's making in the picture I drew, but at the same time it seems just as ridiculous as he is sometimes haha.

Dance, Dance...!

A doodle of a dinosaur dancing, just for you!Someday I shall learn to do awesome stuff in Corel Painter instead of just doodling. You would think having just seen "How to Train Your Dragon" (which was awesome by the way!) I would draw a dragon. But no...I stick with dinosaurs. XD I lack the ability to draw dragons for some reason.

Today I spent most of my day listening to a lecture and then seeing a demo by Greg Manchess, who came to visit our school. He's a phenomonal oil painter - just look at the work on his site, though he said he hasn't updated it in years, it's just as great as it is now. Altogether his talk and demo took about six hours, but it six hours well spent (though I was quite hungry and tired of sitting by the end haha). Learned a lot, and got really inspired!

I hope to apply much of what I've learned, and I can't wait for next school year. This summer too, as I plan to learn how to use Painter and try to do some work in it. Exciting!

This semester can't be over soon enough...but I must stay strong until the end! Wooh!

"Do Something!"

My, what a busy time I've been having. Just finished my latest illustration, which can be viewed on the left. The scan I did of it didn't come out very good at all, but at least the photo came out a little better. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty pleased with it overall. There's really a few things I'd change, which I might do a bit later if I have time. It's mostly some color tweaking, thoughg it could be a bit difficult as I tend to layer colored pencils until you can't layer them anymore haha. Still, I've overall pleased. The prompt for the image was to draw two or more characters discussing something...which somehow led to me drawing two people arguing about killing the ginormous cockroach. :D

For some reason I feel it could do well as an editoral image, though I haven't a clue what the topic would be.

I'll update again at some point soon with some of my latest ink figure work, most of which I think came out rather well. I can't wait for summer...so many projects I want to work on, and so little time! Plus I haven't had as much time to work on Fruitful Confusion as I'd like, and that makes me a bit sad. :/

That's all for now!

"No wai!!"

Today my fiance and I tried making our own parasaurolohpus shirts! :D They came out pretty good. Pictures of us wearing them are below. Note that these are NOT the shirts from cafepress; these are ones we made ourselves. I would make them myself instead of using cafepress, but I do not continually have the means to. But since I was home this week for Spring Break instead of at school, we were able to. I also got some ideas for some more dinosaur shirts, so look forward to those! :)

On the left is an image I did for a poster for my graphic design class. I'll post the finished version with the text at a later date; for now I wanted to show the picture. I don't often draw babies so I was pretty pleased with how he came out. :) The poster is going to be about healthcare and I hope the image works with what I have in mind.

I'd post images of my progress for illustration, but I unforetunately have no scan of it at the moment. Perhaps when I get farther along I'll post a WIP...or maybe I'll wait until it's done. So far I like it; the topic is a bit humorous. Reminds me a bit of Franz Kafka's "Metamorphasis" haha - whether that's a good or bad thing might be up to someone else.

That's all for now.... expect more stuff soon!

(Also, Fruitful Confusion updated today...;))

So Much to Do, So Little Time!

I was revising my current to-do list and I've found that there are too many things that I want to do and too many things I need to do! How ever shall I tackle them all?! I've been attempting to prioritize and break it down into how long each will take so I can give deadlines to them all, but I foresee it being quite a challenge...Alas!

There are currently nine things on my personal to-do list, which are mainly small projects and specific illustrations or drawings I wish to do. A few are larger, like the short black & white comic I hope to produce this summer. School must come first though, and I still have 13 paintings to finish before the semester ends, in addition to a research paper (at least I have all my material; just need to sort through and write it!). Of course those don't include additional homework yet to be assigned. Yikes!

Wherever did the time go?

I suppose I've been slacking a little bit. Last semester was incredibly tough, and I got burned out at the end of it. I haven't quite gotten back on track yet...I shouldn't make excuses, but its the truth. I guess its time to put on the headband of determination, roll up my sleeves, and get to work! Tackle one week at a time, and see how it goes.

Spring break is nearly over and I still have things to do before I go back to school. At least I like my schedule when I'm home - I can stay up late and sleep in, just like I like to do. I'm most certainly a night owl and Im most productive at night. Nevertheless, it's time to stop slacking!

So here we go - attempting to tackle projects and defeat time in an epic battle to the finish!! >:D

Website Update Complete!

The update for the website is finally complete!!

New artwork is up, my portfolio updated, and everything should be in tip-top shape! :D Some tweaks might be made here and there, but it is otherwise set. I like it a lot better than my last design. If you're encountering any problems with the site or have any suggestions, please let me know!

Also, I came up with a random little design featuring my absolute favorite-ist dinosaur...the parasauropholus!! Since I'm using cafepress to produce the design on t-shirts, they are a bit pricey (I only get $2 off the price), but I hope some people enjoy them. Click on the store link to check 'em out! There are quite a few colors to choose from. I'm investigating ways into how I might be able to produce them myself cheaper, but at the moment it's not quite possible so cafepress shall have to do. I'm also going to try out making some jewerly and keychains this summer, so stay tuned for that! :)

That's all for now!

Updating Website!

Oh, you all know me...I love to redo my website randomly. And now I've done it again!

This time I've integrated my new layout into drupal instead of having everything coded from scratch. It makes updating a bit easier for me, and now it's also easier for people to get involved with what I'm up to. Decided to make it more blog-like in that sense, as some other illustrators seem to be doing now. It's been taking some getting used to, but I think I shall enjoy it.
